In the heart of Soho, Milroy’s is a whisky institution with a reputation dating back to the swinging 60’s. After it’s founders retired, the business was sold to new owners, passionate about whisky. Their ambition was to open a second bar where they could offer an even bigger range of whiskies.

Design CLD were invited by Milroy’s consultants, Rees Associates to help them translate the earthy feel of the much loved Greek Street bar into a new much bigger site near Spitalfields market – a thriving hub of culture and fashion just a short walk from the city of London.

Spread over four floors, the design pivots around the ground floor whisky bar. This is a perfect introduction to the venue, featuring walls lined with a thousand whiskies displayed in copper cages.

Upstairs in The Dram House, brooding flamed oak walls, velvet sofas, and whispy cloud like lights characterise a significant step up to the quirky luxury of Milroy’s members bar and their exclusive tasting room.

In the basement, extensive structural alterations have enabled customers to enjoy whisky based cocktails set in a candle lit cave of urban luxury. There, cool copper, brass and marble finishes, and furniture, contrast beautifully with the raw unfinished walls and flame blackened oak of the eighteenth century cellar – now known as the “proofing room”.

“Working closely with the passionate and knowledgeable Milroys team has been both an education and pleasure. We are proud that our input has helped to create such a fantastic, new, unique and exciting venue. Wherever you look, the interior design and styling integrates seamlessly with the heritage, pioneering range, and generous hospitality associated with the famous Milroy’s name.”
